The Gong Timer as

The Gong Timer as "guardian of time"

2015-03-04
How to deal with time during a meditation retreat…

... and enjoy the retreat too !

Once during a retreat, I was asked to act as “guardian of time” which meant that the teacher counted on me to hit a Tibetan bowl every hour: to start a sitting, to signal the end of a sitting, to get everyone to come back to the meditation hall after the walking meditation or after the meal, etc. In the end, I spent most of the retreat looking at my watch and fretting about the time.

So when I discovered the Gong Timer, I immediately bought one and now I take it to all the retreats I go to and lend it to the poor fellow who has been designated as “guardian of time”. I have also offered one of these lovely little Gong Timer pyramids to several practice places I go to and everyone likes them – especially the monks and nuns!

Now the new Audio Gong Timer is best-performing. The times you set can be longer, precise to the minute and I also use it to play teachings I record during the retreats. Great!

Meditation is meant to help us relax and stop worrying, not to stress us more. LOL
